Join Us!
Volunteers are the heart of our organization. In fact, Whidbey Island Garden Tour (WIGT) is an ALL-volunteer organization. We would love to include YOU! Our mission is to provide financial grants to those who create and improve sustainable environments on our beautiful Island. Being a volunteer means investing in our community! Please consider joining us for Tour Day, July 18, 2026. All Volunteers receive two free entries for the Friday evening Pre-Tour and are invited to the post-tour party to enjoy dinner & dessert, as well as our annual grants presentation.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
- Logistics Volunteers help set up canopies, tables and parking signs prior to the tour, and break down supplies at the end the of tour on Saturday.
- Garden Helpers (may include Greeters and Docents) provide support to Garden Hosts, review tickets at each garden's entry, answer questions about gardens, offer direction, and recruit volunteers.
- Parking Directors (Parkers) are critical to the success of our tour! They get to have fun in the sun, play with walkie-talkies, and achieve their step goal for the day. Our islands rural environment presents several parking issues for garden visitors. Road signage directs visitors to the garden locations, but parkers are the ones who guide visitors to safe and efficient parking spots, allowing up to one thousand visitors to tour our featured gardens! Parkers are an essential, very important part of the Volunteer piece. Please consider volunteering to be a parker.
- Party Helpers assist with the volunteer party, which is held the evening of the tour to celebrate and thank our Garden Hosts and all our Volunteers, and to announce our grant recipients.
Day-of-Tour volunteer hours are from 9:30 am to 4:15 pm. In addition, all volunteers are requested to attend a brief orientation meeting in their assigned garden prior to the tour.
